SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team opened play at the Travis Roy Memorial Tournament on Sunday (Sept. 13) afternoon at Powder Horn Golf Club and hosted by South Dakota Mines.
 
The Mavericks entire team completed 15 holes with one player completing 17 holes when play was halted due to darkness. Those players will complete their final holes of the first round before moving on to their second of three rounds on Monday.
 
With the incomplete final scores, Colorado Mesa sits in sixth place in the 12-team field featuring a majority of RMAC and West Region schools. The Mavericks are at 29-over (with nine total holes unplayed amongst the top four golfers) and sit three strokes behind fifth-place Augustana.
 
Westminster leads the field with a 16-over and a complete round with fellow RMAC foe CSU Pueblo one stroke back after the first of three rounds.
 
Colorado Mesa junior Hunter Gledhill leads the team in a tie for sixth place at 3-over with three holes to play in the first round. Gledhill has three birdies in the round paired with six bogeys in the round. Two of those three birdies came in her second nine.
 
Sophomore Hayden Hawley is currently the Mavericks No. 2 golfer after 15 complete holes and a 5-over, 64. Hawley is currently in a tie for 13^th place on the leaderboard after a round that included two birdies, three bogeys, and two holes of double bogey or worse.
 
Libby Bourassa (10-over 78) and freshman Brooke Brekke (11-over, 75) round out the Maverick scorers.
 
Westmont's Cooper Gilmore leads the medalist race with an even-par on the first day of competition.
 
The final handful of holes of the first round and the second round will begin tomorrow morning.
