Olivia Reed Thyne was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Woman of the Year, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The women's basketball standout out is the first Maverick woman to ever claim the honor, first presented in 2015-16. The honor goes to a graduating female student-athlete with outstanding academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, community service, and leadership throughout their career. Each member institution may nominate a single student-athlete for the award.
Reed Thyne, a native of Windsor, Colorado,
was also tabbed as the RMAC's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year last week.
She will formally receive both at the RMAC Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet on July 9 in Colorado Springs.
Reed Thyne graduated with a 3.93 GPA this spring after leading the Maverick women's basketball team to a 37-2 overall record, a trip to the NCAA Tournament semifinals and a double RMAC regular season and tournament championships.
The RMAC title was the Mavs' third straight.
In the process, Reed Thyne broke a 35-year old RMAC scoring record by scoring 894 points while breaking a 40-year old RMAC rebounding record with 457 caroms.
Reed Thyne was named as both the RMAC Player of the Year and RMAC Academic Player of the Year for the third straight season and won consensus first team all-America accolades. She was also the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year and the RMAC and NCAA South Central Region Tournament MVP while earning a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team.
She was also tabbed to the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division II Academic All-America teams for the third straight year and was named as the Team Member of the Year this season amongst many other honors while leading the Mavericks to a 34-game winning streak and perfect 20-0 RMAC record.
In addition to her single-season records, Reed Thyne also smashed the RMAC career records for both points (2,490) and rebounds (1,431) this season while becoming the only player in conference history to ever score more than 2,000 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds.
She was a 4-time First Team All-RMAC player and 4-time all-region selection in her career and was named as the 2022-23 RMAC Freshman of the Year.
Outside of her academic and athletic achievements, Reed Thyne has made a lasting impact on the community through her commitment to service during her time at Colorado Mesa. From 2023 to 2026, she dedicated her time to a variety of organizations and outreach initiatives, including Pomona Elementary, Challenger Baseball, Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary, Broadmoor Elementary, and Readathon, demonstrating the same passion and leadership off the court that defined her collegiate career.
"As a student-athlete at Colorado Mesa University, my experiences as a scholar, athlete, and leader have shaped me in ways that extend far beyond the classroom and court." Said Reed Thyne. "While I am immensely grateful for the academic and athletic honors I have earned, the most meaningful growth has come through the adversity, relationships, and lessons that accompanied them."
