GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University women's basketball standout
Olivia Reed Thyne was named as the 2025-26 NCAA Division II Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year while teammate
Mason Rowland also garnered Academic All-America® honors as selected by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The duo led the Maverick women's basketball team to a program-best 37-2 record and a trip to the NCAA Division II Championship semifinals.
Reed Thyne, an exercise science major, holds a 3.92 GPA and headlined the First Team Academic All-America team. She was also a first team pick in 2024-25 and earned third team accolades as a sophomore in 2023-24.
Rowland, an accounting major with a 3.90 GPA, was a third team pick this year.
The Mavericks were the only team with multiple selections on the elite list of just 15 student-athletes, selected by the CSC membership on a combination of athletic and academic accomplishments.
This also marks the first time in program history that the Mavs have had two selections in the same year.
Reed Thyne, selected by CSC as the top student-athlete in the country, is the only 3-time selection from the list and is the first Maverick women's basketball player to earn three Academic All-America honors, further cementing her status as the top player in program history.
The Windsor, Colorado native set school, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Colorado Collegiate (all division) single-season records for both points (894) and rebounds (457) and had a long list of accolades, including being named as both the RMAC and Division II Conference Commissioners Association South Central Region Player of the Year this season. She was also a consensus first team all-American earning honors from both the D2CCA and WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association).
Reed Thyne also finished her career with 2,490 points and 1,431, obliterating the former school and RMAC records while becoming the first RMAC player to ever record more than 2,000 points and 1,000 career rebounds.
She was also named as the conference's academic player of the year for the third straight season.
Rowland, a redshirt sophomore from Durango, Colorado, holds a 3.90 GPA and is majoring in accounting. She joined Reed Thyne on the First Team Academic All-RMAC team and was also on the First Team All-RMAC and D2CCA All-South Central Region team.
She scored 718 points this season, fourth most in RMAC history, and led the Mavericks in assists (147), steals (67) while grabbing 237 rebounds (6.1 per game). She also led the RMAC with 83 3-pointers and 191 free throws and was second in the conference with her .891 free throw percentage.
