COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University sophomore goalie
Heather Hawkins was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
The honor is the third of her career and the first of the Mavericks' season and comes after she recorded a season-high 13 saves in the Mavs' 18-6 victory over previous RMAC-leading Westminster University on Friday. She also caused a season-high three caused turnovers and racked up six ground balls to match her season-high.
That effort came after she made ten saves in last Wednesday's game against nationally-ranked Regis, which now leads the RMAC.
Hawkins, a native of Palmer Lake, Colorado, has 108 saves this season and is just the third Maverick goalie to record more than 100 saves in back-to-back seasons.
She ranks second in the RMAC with her .435 save percentage and 10.71 goals against average this season after earning RMAC Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Year accolades last season.
