INDIANAPOLIS— After winning their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title in program history last week, the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks knew they were guaranteed of selection to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship field.
They have since received that official notification and were selected as the No. 3 seed out of the South Central Region over the weekend and will make their seventh straight appearance in the South Central/West Super Regional, which will be played this year in Stockton, California.
The May 7-9 tournament will be played at The Reserve at Spanos Park, where the Mavs started the spring portion of their season.
The tournament will include 20 teams, ten from the South Central Region and ten from the West Region. Eight individuals—four from each region— were also selected.
The top six finishing teams plus the top two individuals not on those teams will then qualify for the finals, which will be played May 18-22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada, the site of the Mavs' conference title winning effort.
The Mavericks are one three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams in the field, joining CSU Pueblo and Colorado Christian. Fort Lewis' Traejan Andrews, Colorado School of Mines' Liam Allen and Mines' Lukas Taggart were also picked as individuals.
