PUEBLO, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's golf team recorded its best round of the entire 2025-26 season to date and moved up four spot to finish in a tie for eighth at the Southern Colorado Open, which wrapped up Monday here at Walking Stick Golf Course.
The Mavs posted a team score of 300 (+12) in Monday's lap around the 6,000-yard, par-72 track as six different players, including an individual, all finished Monday's round in the 70s.
CMU finished the 36-hole event at 625 (+49) and had one of the five best team scores in Monday's portion of the event after standing in 12
th place of the 15-team field following Sunday's opening round.
Payton Panzeri led the Maverick effort with +1 round of 73 and finished in a 16
th place tie overall with a 36-hole total of 152 (+2). She made four birdies in Monday's round.
Anju Ogi was right behind, carding a 74 on Monday to finish in a tie for 24
th at 154 (+4). She head a steady round with one birdie,14 pars and just three bogeys.
Meanwhile,
McKenzie Dolph posted a round of 75, the best of her collegiate career, and moved up to finish in a tie for 53
rd at 162 (+18). Her Monday round was 12 shots better than Sunday's.
Hunter Gledhill registered a second straight round of 79 and placed 39
th with a 2-day total of 158 (+14) but did not have her round counted towards the team score on Monday.
Instead, the Mavs used a 78 from
Libby Bourassa, who finished in a tie for 63
rd overall at 165 (+21).
Hayden Hawley led a group of three Maverick individuals in the 84-player field, tying for 57
th place at 163 (+19). She had a round of 79 on Monday.
Mackenzie Goudreau and
Becca Washington also played as individuals and took 70
th and 78
th, respectively.
Tournament hosts CSU Pueblo claimed the team win at 588 (+12) after finishing Monday with a team score of 293, the best in the 15-team field. In the process, they beat UT Dallas by five shots after the Comets fired a 298 on Monday. The ThunderWolves and Comets had been tied for the Sunday night lead.
Lisa Ekberg of CSU Pueblo won the individual title via a playoff over Margaret Nyamukondiawa of Texas A&M-International after both finished the tournament at -1 (143).
The Mavericks will play their final regular season tournament of the season at home on Apr. 11-12, hosting the Maverick Challenge at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa.
