COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University redshirt senior 285-pounder
Ruben Samuelson was tabbed as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The honor comes after the Carbondale, Colorado native recorded three first-period pins while helping lead the Mavericks to a 3-0 team day at Saturday's Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison. Samuelson recorded his pins a combined four minutes and three seconds.
He pinned Preston Dixon of Cal Poly Humboldt in a minute to begin the day and then stuck Vanguard's David Baxter at 2:12. Samuelson then finished his and the Mavericks' day with a 53-second pin over Minot State's Braxton Rance.
Samuelson is now 9-4 on the season and has won eight matches by pin in the first period.
The nation's 18
th-ranked Mavs, 4-1 in duals as a team, will resume RMAC action this Saturday when they take on No. 16 Adams State (4-0) in a Saturday matinee (2 p.m.) in the Grizzlies' Plachy Hall in Alamosa.
The Mavs also claimed the RMAC Women's Wrestler of the Week award as Lorianna Piestewa received the honor after going a perfect 5-0 at the NWCA National Duals.
