Henley Madsen both recorded 11 kills as the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks hit an impressive .365 as a team in a 25-17, 25-11, 25-19 sweep over New Mexico Highlands University in Saturday night Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball action here inside the Cowgirls' John A. Wilson Complex.
The Mavericks, ranked 23
rd in the national poll, improved to 6-3 with the victory and have now started RMAC play 2-0 for the third straight year.
CMU has also won 17 consecutive matches since 2011 in the rivalry.
NMHU fell to 4-6 overall and to 0-2 after the opening weekend of conference play.
Scoville hit .435 and committed just one error on 23 swings while Madsen was also efficient, finishing with a .381 attack percentage on 21 attempts.
Emma Luce and
Kaitlyn Hall also finished with seven kills apiece off the bench.
Setters
Ashlyn Tafoya and
Addie Swanson combined for 37 assists in a 6-2 offensive scheme as Tafoya started all three sets while recording 19 assists. She also added a pair of service aces.
Libero
Allison Waller led the Mavs' back row with eight digs.
Arianna Jamerson led NMHU with seven kills.
The Mavs led throughout all three sets and hit .448 as a team in the first set before recording .333 and .312 percentages in the second and third sets, respectively. They played quite cleanly and committed just ten hitting errors while recording their third 3-set sweep of the season.
The Cowgirls were guilty of 16, including nine in the second set, which was the most lopsided.
After playing their first nine matches over three straight weekends away from home, the Mavericks will begin a 4-match homestand on Friday (Sept. 26) when they square off with MSU Denver in a match-up of the top two teams in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Roadrunners were ranked fourth in this week's national poll and escaped with a 5-set win at the Colorado School of Mines on Friday night to improve to 8-1 on the season.
