NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.— The Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team and a program-record 11 individual student-athletes were honored for their academic successes as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its' annual Academic Honor Squads and NCAA Division II Academic Honor Rolls on Wednesday.
The Maverick women received the team Academic Honor Squad award for the fifth straight year and ninth overall time. They were one of just four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference squads (Regis, UCCS, Westminster) to receive the honor, which required teams to have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
A total of 383 teams from NCAA Divisions I, II, III and the NAIA were recognized, including 66 Division II programs.
The Mavs also had 11 players receive IWLCA Academic Honor Roll status, one of the highest totals in the country. That award requires student-athletes to be a junior, senior or graduate student and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
