BOISE, Idaho— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team split a pair of 5-0 decisions, claiming their fourth win over a Division I institution over Portland University after falling to the host Boise State University on Friday here at the Broncos' Beach Volleyball Complex.
 
The Mavericks are now 17-8 overall.
 
The Mavs used the same lineup in both duals as all five duos went 1-1 just as a team.
 
The Broncos, who improved to 17-10 with the win over CMU, came from a set down in two of the five matches to sweep the dual.
 
The Mavs' No. 3 duo of Barett Nolan and Ania Swartzendruber and the No. 4 pair of Taylor Scherff and Jessica Passi both won the first set of their respective matches, 21-16, but dropped the second and third sets.
 
However, they and the Mavericks were dominant in their first ever match against the Portland Pilots, who fell to 4-10.
 
Nolan and Swartzendruber beat Valerie Bruk and Elena Buellemer, 21-16, 21-19 while Scherff and Passi blasted Elizabeth Ortiz and Taylor Helle, 21-11, 21-8 as the Mavs took a 2-0 lead in the dual.
 
Meanwhile, No. 1 pair Gracyn Spresser and Ellie Ask claimed a 21-9, 22-20 victory in the top flight to complete the sweep.
 
Lucy Kaufman and Emerson Deferme also had a comfortable, 21-7, 21-8 win at No. 5 while Riley Daugherty and Lizzy Hood held on for a 21-17, 12-21, 15-10 win in a 3-set battle on Court 2.
 
The Mavs will wrap up the regular season and the weekend tournament on Saturday playing here against Saint Mary's and CSU Bakersfield before playing in next week's AVCA Small College Beach Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
