GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team continued their home-court winning streak, recording a pair of dominant 5-0 wins over the visiting Central Wyoming College Rustlers on Saturday here at the CMU Beach Courts.
The Mavericks won every set throughout the doubleheader, holding Rustler pairs to single digit point totals in 14 of the 20 official sets as they improved to 10-2 on the season while extending their winning streak to six.
The Mavs have now won all 21 duals they have played on home sand in the program's history, now in season No. 10.
Central Wyoming fell to 2-3 on the season.
The Mavs used the same pairs in the first through fourth flights while two different duos played at No. 5.
Lauren Rohlwing and
Stormi Tadlock also dominated their exhibition matches on Court 6.
Maverick No. 1 duo
Gracyn Spresser and
Ellie Ask extended their winning streak to six and improved to 8-4 on the year. They recorded a 21-8, 21-4 win in the morning dual and a 21-8, 21-7 victory in the second, beating the Rustler's Brooklyn Coats and Presley Ryan in both.
Riley Daugherty and
Lizzy Hood are now 12-0 on the season in the second flight after the Maverick pair claimed 21-12, 21-12 and 21-6, 21-15 wins over CWC's Khloe Hobson and Hallie Reeder.
At No. 3, Barret Nolan and
Ania Swartzendruber crushed Laina Whitney and Rian McKenzie, 21-2, 21-3 in the first dual. The Maverick pair, now 10-2, on the season, then won 21-6, 21-11 the second.
At No. 4,
Jessica Passi and
Taylor Scherff, were 21-8, 21-4 victors in the first dual and then dominated the second match-up even more, 21-3, 21-3. That Maverick pair is now 9-3 this season.
In the first dual,
Ava Blanco and
Brooke Hartman got the nod on Court 5. They won 21-5, 21-12 over the Rustlers' Sarah Meservey and Paige McKenize.
Sofia Kolbe and
Izzy Burns then defeated the Rustler duo, 21-9, 21-9 in the second match.
Rohlwing and Tadlock won their exhibition matches, 21-7, 21-10 and 21-7, 21-8. They defeated Paige Tolman and Brooke Carroll both times.
The Mavericks will host an intrasquad scrimmage next Saturday (Mar. 15) at noon before heading out for a spring break trip to California and Arizona.
