LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team began their spring season on Monday (Mar. 10) afternoon as they played the first round of the Southwest Minnesota State Spring Invite at Wigwam Resort's Red Course.
The Mavericks are in ninth place on the team leaderboard after a first round 43-over, 331. They are just two strokes from moving up to seventh and within eight strokes of sixth-place Southwest Minnesota State.
Ranked No. 6 in the Clippd rankings Grand Valley State is leading the tournament after the first round with a 3-over, 291.
Senior
Cassidy Phelan leads the Mavericks with a 9-over, 81 in her first round and is in 34
th place as an individual. The Henderson, Nev. native was the one Maverick to record a birdie on the day as she did so on the par-4, No. 3 hole.
Fellow senior
Brittlynn O'Dell was one stroke behind her teammate and is in 41
st place after a 10-over, 82 in her first round of the spring.
Saint Martin's Kelsie Inouye and Grand Valley State's Olivia Stoll each shot a 2-under, 70 in their first round to lead the medalist race.
Tomorrow's second and final round is set to begin at 9am.
