GAME 1 (CMU 7, Regis 3):
In the Mavs' home opener of 2025, the team saw themselves go down early 3-0 in the top of the first inning as the Rangers came out of the gate swinging hitting back-to-back homeruns.
Despite the immediate deficit the Mavs retaliated quickly as they scored six runs over the first three innings to take the lead and never look back.
In the bottom of the first, Ally Distler got one run back with a sac fly to center to score Myah Arrieta before Chloe Valdez followed up next with a single to left to bring in Brynn Escobar.
Trailing only 2-3 now, Distler came up big for her team again hitting a three-run blast in the second to push the Mavs ahead 5-3.
Jackie Oster allowed for the team to score for their third consecutive inning as she added to the lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Khloe Kubitscheck and move the game to 6-3.
Brynn Escobar added the final insurance run of the game as she tacked on one more run in the fifth innings after a single to center brought in Oster.
Reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Year, Preslee Christensen, got the start in the circle for the Mavs as she earned her first win of the season going four innings while giving up just four hits, three runs and striking out three. She was relieved of her duties in the fifth as Jessalyn Gallegos pitched the final three innings en route to her second save of the season.
The Mavs recorded a total of 10 hits in the game with Distler, Makayla Westmoreland and Jenna Salcido each having two apiece to lead the squad.
GAME 2 (CMU 4, Regis 6):
Following a game one defeat, the Rangers showed much more resilience in game two of the day as they came back from an early deficit to outscore the Mavs over the final four innings.
Through the first three innings the Mavs led 4-0 with both Distler and Valdez each knocking in home runs.
Distler started the game with a three-run homerun in the first with Valdez then hitting a solo shot in the third inning. Distler's homerun was her team-leading fourth this season, with Valdez's being her first.
Following the early lead by Colorado Mesa, the Rangers started to make their comeback in the fourth as they were able to put three runs up after starting the inning with three straight hits.
Olivia Wick then tied the game up in the sixth on a solo shot to right center, making it 4-4 with just one more inning to play.
The newly woken up bats of Regis struck again in the seventh as they tacked on two more runs on three hits.
Trailing now by two runs the Mavs fell short in their attempt in the seventh by concluding the game going three-up three-down.
Regis was lead Vanessa Candito in the game who pitched the entire seven innings while giving up just six hits and four runs. She improved to 2-1 on the year and has the team's only two complete games.
For the Mavs, Sophia Tassinari went 3.1 innings in her start earning the no decision while giving up just four hits with three runs allowed. In relief Marisa Nehm suffered her first loss of the season after going three innings with five hits and three runs.
Gallegos pitched the final two outs following Nehm as the only pitcher to see multiple appearances on the day.
