SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – Freshman
Hunter Gledhill shot an opening round 75 to lead the Colorado Mesa women's golf team in the first round of the Wasatch Invitational held at Glenmoor Golf Course on Sunday (Sept. 22) afternoon.
Gledhill shot an even-par, 36 on the front nine of the course with two birdies and two bogeys before closing with a double, a bogey and seven pars. The Herriman, Utah native is currently in 10
th place on the individual leaderboard and is just four shots off the lead.
Cassidy Phelan and
Brittlynn O'Dell are tied for 24
th on the individual leaderboard as each shot a 7-over, 79 in their first round. Individual player
Hannah Cupples was one stroke better as she shot a 6-over, 78 in the round. The trio all started their day off strong but struggled slightly to close the day as all three were in the 30s on the front and in the 40s on the back.
MSU Denver's Mackenzie Carpenter leads the field after the first round with a 1-under, 71.
The Mavericks sit in a tie for sixth place in the team standings after shooting a 25-over, 313. They are just two strokes back of RMAC foe MSU Denver and five strokes behind fourth-place Point Loma.
PacWest member Biola leads the team leaderboard after the first round with a 298.
The teams will go off tomorrow in a shotgun start beginning at 8:30am. The Mavericks are set to begin on hole No. 8.
