COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado Mesa kicker Sullivan Moon was selected the RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
Moon, a junior from Colorado Springs who transferred to CMU from CSU Pueblo this season, made field goals of 20 and 35 yards in the Mavericks' 28-12 loss to Central Washington on Saturday.
He averaged 38 yards on four punts, placing two inside the 20-yard line and unleashing a 67-yarder in the third quarter that pinned the Wildcats back at their own 4.
Three of Moon's four kickoffs went into the end zone for touchbacks and another was fielded at the 7 and returned to the 18.
In the Mavs' first two games, Moon is averaging 35 yards a punt, with three of seven landing inside the 20. He's 2 for 3 on field goals and has not attempted a PAT kick — the Mavericks have attempted 2-point conversions after each of their three touchdowns so far, converting two.
Colorado Mesa, which received one vote again this week in the AFCA national rankings, opens RMAC play at No. 22 CSU Pueblo at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The ThunderWolves lost to No. 3 Grand Valley State 24-21 last weekend.
