GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Trevor Baskin continues to establish himself as one of the premier players in NCAA Division II this season, earning another batch of awards over the weekend.
First, Baskin made the Bevo Francis Award Top 25 Watchlist, remaining under consideration as the field of eligible candidates for the award was cut from 50 to 25. Then, Baskin earned a spot on the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Region First Team, where he was accompanied by teammate
Mac Riniker on the second team.
Baskin is joined on the D2CCA First Team by Black Hills State guard Matthew Ragsdale, Dallas Baptist guard Cameron Kahn, Eastern New Mexico forward Jahcoree Ealy and West Texas A&M forward Larry Wise, who was named the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II South Central Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all‐region teams. The process concludes with All‐American selections announced later in the month. The NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners sponsor the All-Region teams.
This year's selections mark the first career D2CCA all-region nods for both Baskin and Riniker. Baskin previously received a second-team all-region selection from the NABC (coaches) in 2023. This year marks the first time in program history that CMU has played two players on the D2CCA all-region teams in the same year.
Baskin and Riniker join Mike Dominguez (first team, 2010), Ryan Stephan (second team 2015, first team 2016), Connor Nichols (second team, 2019) and
Blaise Threatt (first team, 2023) as Mavericks to earn D2CCA All-Region honors in the history of the program.
Baskin and Wise, who are scheduled to have a head-to-head showdown Tuesday night when CMU faces West Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, are the two remaining South Central region players in the group of 25 players still in contention for the Bevo Francis Award, presented by Small College Basketball.
The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within non-Division I college basketball (Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college). According to the award committee, considerations include season statistics, individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements.
Baskin is averaging 18.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game, leading the team in all four categories. Baskin is either first or second in the RMAC in total points, rebounds, assists and blocks. The Arvada, Colorado native has 11 double-doubles, including four in CMU's five postseason games between the RMAC Tournament and NCAA Tournament.
The redshirt junior was named the RMAC Player of the Year in addition to his third straight First Team All-RMAC honor. Baskin also was named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team and the RMAC All-Tournament Team.
