COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— After claiming his first collegiate win on Saturday, Colorado Mesa University freshman
Salem Brunk was recognized as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Brunk, a native of Windsor, Colorado, won the triple jump at Saturday's Big Red Machine Open in Gunnison, posting a personal-best mark of 14.14 meters (46 feet, 4 ¾ inches) to do so. That effort moved him into the No. 8 spot on the Mavericks' all-time performers chart and puts him seventh on the season-long RMAC performance list.
Brunk, who finished sixth at the state championship meet last year while jumping for Windsor High School, is the third Maverick man to earn four combined RMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors this season joining
Eddie Kurjak and
Justin Thompson. High jumper Josie Coffey was also named as the RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week last week.
A partial contingent of the CMU Indoor Track & Field squad will compete at the Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas although Brunk will not make that trip.
