Baskin Goes Back-To-Back On DPOTW Awards

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Trevor Baskin won the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after two more standout performances which completely stuffed the stat sheet.

Baskin averaged 30 points, 8.5 rebounds, five assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest for a Colorado Mesa team that needed every bit of his production in a 116-108 win over New Mexico Highlands and an 82-80 win over CSU Pueblo.

The redshirt junior's finest performance of the week, and probably the season, came last Friday against New Mexico Highlands. Baskin went off for 43 points and also collected nine rebounds (seven defensive), six assists, four steals and two blocks. The 43 points were the highest single-game total in the RMAC this season and just two shy of the CMU program single-game scoring record. Baskin then finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal against CSU Pueblo.

Baskin also contributed heavily to Colorado Mesa setting the new NCAA record with 58 consecutive made free throws over a three-game stretch which included the Highlands game. Baskin contributed 22 free throws to the streak of 58 and went 17-for-18 from the line over this past week's games against New Mexico Highlands and CSU Pueblo.

Aside from his scoring prowess, Baskin's other stats padded his status on the RMAC leaderboards. Baskin ranks second in the RMAC with 207 total rebounds and third in the RMAC with 28 total blocks, while his 3.9 assists per game are fourth in the conference.

Colorado School of Mines guard Majok Deng won the Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring 42 points in Mines's only game of the week against Chadron State. Baskin's 43 point-game and Deng's 42-point game are the two best scoring performances in the RMAC this season.

The Mavericks, ranked No. 6 in the nation and 19-1 in the RMAC, enter the final week of the regular season guaranteed to finish no worse than second place and hoping for some help to claim an RMAC regular season title. The Mavs are tied in the standings with Fort Lewis, who holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over CMU, meaning the Skyhawks would have the edge if both teams win out or otherwise finish with the same RMAC record.

Colorado Mesa closes the RMAC regular season at Westminster on Tuesday before returning home for Senior Night and the regular season finale this Saturday against Western Colorado.
