Baskin Named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After two monster performances in wins over potential NCAA Tournament teams, Trevor Baskin has been named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. In two wins over No. 21 Colorado School of Mines and MSU Denver, Baskin averaged 21 points, nine rebounds, 5.5 assists and four blocks per game.

The weekly honor is the first of the season for Baskin and the third of the redshirt junior's career. Baskin previously won an RMAC Offensive Player of the Week award for the week of January 17, 2022 and nabbed a Defensive Player of the Week honor during the week of January 23, 2023.

Baskin also becomes the first CMU player this season not named Mac Riniker to win the RMAC's weekly defensive honor – Riniker, the conference's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, has four, more than any other RMAC player this season.

Baskin performed well against Mines, collecting 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and two blocks in CMU's emphatic 98-81 victory, but outdid himself against MSU Denver. Against the Roadrunners, Baskin finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season while adding six assists and six blocks.

The six blocks are the highest single-game total by any RMAC player this season and tied for the most in a single game in school history, equaling Jarred Perry's six-block performance against Western Colorado in February of 2005.

While Baskin's rebounding and blocking prowess last weekend earned him the conference's defensive honor, he was extremely efficient on the offensive end as well. For the weekend, Baskin shot 74 percent from the field (14-19), 67 percent from three-point range (2-3) and 100 percent from the free throw line (12-12). Baskin wasn't alone in his perfection from the foul line, as CMU combined to go 33-for-33 from the stripe as a team over the weekend's two wins.

The Arvada, Colorado native is in the middle of an outstanding season. Baskin currently ranks ninth in the RMAC in scoring (16.2 points per game), third in the conference in rebounding (7.9 boards per game), tied for fourth in assists (3.8 per game) and fifth in blocks (25, 1.0 per game). He is the only RMAC player ranked in the league's top 10 in points, rebounds and assists.

Baskin and the No. 9-ranked Mavericks are on the road for the next week-and-a-half, traveling to New Mexico Highlands on Friday, CSU Pueblo on Saturday and Westminster the following Tuesday. The Mavs will return home next Saturday, March 2, against Western Colorado for the final game of the regular season.
