PUEBLO, Colo. – Senior
Cassidy Phelan leads the Colorado Mesa women's golf team after shooting a 3-over, 75 in the first round of the CSU Pueblo Fall Invitational on Monday (Oct. 7) afternoon at Pueblo Country Club.
Phelan started on hole No. 10 today and played to a 1-over, 38 in her first nine holes before closing with a 2-over, 37 on the front nine. She birdied the par-5, No. 12 and the par-4, No. 18 on the day. She is just two strokes off the lead in a tie for seventh place with the leaders shooting 1-over, 73s.
Payton Panzeri finished as the Mavericks No. 2 golfer after a 7-over, 79 which put her in 17
th place on the individual leaderboard. Panzeri carded three birdies but had eight bogeys and a double.
Alexandria Klemke from Western New Mexico and Lisa Ekberg from CSU Pueblo lead the medalist race with 1-over, 74s.
Colorado Mesa is in fourth place on the team leaderboard with a 28-over, 316 counting the four best scores. They are nine shots back of third-place Western New Mexico and five strokes ahead of MSU Denver and Dodge City.
Tournament host CSU Pueblo leads the field with a 10-over, 298 after the first round.
The second and final round is set to begin tomorrow morning.
