SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Freshman
Shantelle Tupaz and the Colorado Mesa University women's triathlon team both took second in the Division II portion of the overall standings at the West National Qualifier, held Saturday here at Fellows Lake.
Tupaz completed the sprint distance event with a time of one hour, eight minutes, 37 seconds as she placed 27
th in the overall field of 128 triathletes, including 114 finishers, who went off in two separate waves with the triathletes' finishing times merged for the overall results.
Arizona State won the overall and Division I team title on a tie-breaker over in-state rival Arizona after both scored 614 points to top the field. Denver took third with 595 while South Dakota finished fourth overall with 529.
Host Drury won the Division II crown with 478 points to stop CMU's run of five straight Division II regional wins that had dated back to 2018. The Mavericks scored 450 team points to place sixth out of 16 teams overall.
Black Hills State was seventh overall and third amongst Division III squads with 441 points while North Central (Ill.) took the Division III win with 433 points to place eighth overall.
Arizona State's Naomi Ruff won the individual crown in 1:02.25 while Arizona's Kelly Wetteland was 12 seconds behind. Denver's Maira Carreau took third in in 1:02.49.

Natalie Mitchell, now competing for Cal Poly Humboldt, was the top Division II finisher, placing 25
th in 1:07.31.

Mackenzie Mayer also placed inside the top 50 with Lackmann finishing 40
th overall and eighth amongst Division II triathletes in 1:10:48. Mayer was 47
th overall and 12
th amongst Division II finishers in 1:12:06.

Jaycee Stephens (61
st, 1:15:50) completed the Mavs' team score while
Mariana Batarse Duenes was right behind, taking 62
nd in 1:16:04.

Shannon Feran, the defending Division II champion, was unable to finish after running at the front of the Division II pack.
The Mavericks will complete their fall season on Nov. 8 at the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships in Clermont, Florida.
