GRAND JUNCTION, CO. - Colorado Mesa Hockey started the spring semester with a two-game home stand against Western Colorado University, looking to sweep the season series.

Game 1 featured a start for goaltender
Chris McElroy, making his 16
th start of the season. The first period opened with a power play goal from junior
Bryson Sutterby assisted by
Joey Voyles. Freshman
Ethan Levesque would get on the board shortly after with a goal of his own giving the Mavericks a 2-0 lead ending the first intermission.

The second period started with
Larry Simons dancing around four players and tucking in his first of the night on a busy second period. Then
Colton Wurzer-Seepers would get a powerplay goal from the point to spring the Mavs out to a 4-0 lead. The Mavericks went 3 for 4 on the power play this evening.
Bryson Sutterby and
Everest Samter would net the final two goals in the second period. With CMU firmly in the lead they would aim to continue their dominance in the third intermission

In the final frame an early penalty would put the Mavericks down shorthanded, but with a blocked shot by
Kevin Miller, he would give himself a breakaway and go bar down for his first of the evening. Two minutes later CMU would strike again on the power play again from
Bryson Sutterby who would complete the hattrick, giving him three straight games with three goals. Later in the period freshman
Brayden Wair would carry the puck coast to coast and net his second of the season, and with six minutes left
Bryson Sutterby would score his fourth goal of the game. The final from RiverCity was 10-0 on Friday.

Chris McElroy posted a 27 save shutout and added an assist in his start.

Game 2 was more of the same from Colorado Mesa,
Jacob Weber got his second start of the season on Saturday.

The game started with a power play goal by Western which would be their first and only goal of the weekend. Just a minute later
Bryson Sutterby would separate himself and score a shorthanded goal to tie the game up 1-1 going into the first intermission.

The Mavericks would come out of the break looking to get their first lead of the game. Freshman
Ryan Koch would do just that, getting an early goal to give CMU the lead and they never looked back.
Ethan Gotchey then got himself on the board for his first in a three-goal performance.

Heading into the third with a 3-1 lead, CMU then found five goals from four different scorers in the period.
Bryson Sutterby started the period with his third power play goal of the weekend and sixth total.
Ethan Gotchey nabbed one minutes later and
Larry Simons followed it up to bring it to 6-1. Freshman
Ryan Clyncke scored his second goal of the season late in the third from below the goal line. With two minutes left Coach
Timothy Winegard would put both of his centers,
Ethan Gotchey and
Bryson Sutterby, on the ice who each were on hattrick watch. This time
Ethan Gotchey would get his hattrick off an assist from
Sutterby with just eight seconds left on the clock. This would cap off a four game season series sweep against Western Colorado.
