Mavs split 6-1 decisions

PUEBLO, Colo. — After rain canceled their first two dual matches of the fall, the Colorado Mesa women's tennis team dropped its first match of the Pueblo Duals on Saturday, but finished 1-1 on the day.

Lubbock Christian handed the Mavericks a 6-1 defeat, with freshman Devyn Rodriguez claiming the only win for the Mavericks. The Chandler, Arizona, product won her No. 3 singles match 7-5 7-6 (10-8) over LCU's Axelle Jacquemin.

Issy Coman dropped a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, losing to Michelle Trochez 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9).

In their second match of the day, the Mavericks won five of six singles matches and swept the doubles affairs in a 6-1 victory over Fort Hays State.

Four of the Mavericks' singles wins came in straight sets, with Coman handling Shreethika Vangala 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. Makenna Livingston claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Irina Alfonso and Rodriguez went 2-0 on the day in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Fiorella Mendez. Julianna Campos battled back after dropping the second set of her No. 4 singles match against Ines Latorre to win 6-2, 4-6, 10-6, and Delia Maier claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 over Bethan Gill.

Coman and Livingston at No. 1 doubles and Maier and Kristen Thomas at No. 3 doubles both claimed 6-1 victories, and Campos and Rodriguez won 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2.

The Mavericks travel to Fresno, California, for the ITA West Regional Championships from Sept. 21-23 before wrapping up the fall season with a home dual Sept. 30 against CSU Pueblo at the Elliott Tennis Center.
