Mavs place three on CSC Academic All-District® Teams

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University softball student-athletes Rylee Crouch, Ava Fugate and Aislyn Sharp were all named to the College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA-College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District® team, released this week.

In order to currently qualify for selection, student-athletes must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative GPA, be a starter or important reserve and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions.  Additionally, they must have been at the nominating institution for one full calendar year.

They are now on the national ballot for Academic All-America® honors, which will be selected by position, and scheduled for announcement on June 6.

In previous years, nominees had to have a minimum 3.30 or higher GPA and were then selected by NCAA Division II geographical region via a vote of CoSIDA members from that region to a smaller and more elite all-district team.

Crouch, a sophomore outfielder and exercise science major, holds a 3.867 GPA and was also selected to the RMAC All-Academic First Team this season.  Fugate, a business administration major with a 3.899 GPA was nominated at the designated player position while Sharp, a redshirt junior infielder and environmental science major has a 3.520 GPA.  She and Fugate were also on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll this year.

Crouch was also named to the First Team All-RMAC squad and picked up Second Team All-South Central Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association earlier this week for her stellar on-field play this season.

She led the RMAC with 19 home runs, equal to the second highest single-season total, and was second in the conference with 60 RBIs.  She also ranked third in the RMAC for slugging percentage (.766) and OPS (1.170) and recorded

Fugate made 35 starts at the designated player and first base positions and hit. 345 with eight home runs, seven doubles and 27 RBIs.

Sharp was an Honorable Mention All-RMAC selection and finished the season with a .351 batting average.  She also led the team with 13 doubles and hit eight home runs, scoring 40 runs while driving in 26.  She also led all qualifying Mavericks with a .453 on-base percentage after finishing second on the team with 21 walks.
