PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team had a stellar day to open the CSU Pueblo Pack Classic at Walking Stick Golf Course on Sunday (Mar. 19) afternoon. The Mavericks are in a second place as a team with a strong field of teams including four ranked in the top 50 by GolfStat.
The Mavericks shot a first round of 14-over, 302 and trail team leader Colorado Christian by three strokes with one round to play. The Cougars, ranked No. 43 in the GolfStat rankings, shot a first round score of 11-over 299.
No. 46 Simon Fraser is in sixth-place, No. 50 Sonoma State in in seventh place and No. 31 Western Washington is in 10
th place after the first round.
Cassidy Phelan and
Crystle Querol each shot 2-over, 74 in their first rounds and are in a tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard. Phelan had four birdies and six bogeys in her round while Querol had two birdies and four bogeys in her first round of action.
Sadie Kelley is just one stroke behind with a 3-over, 75 to pace the Mavericks.
Sonoma State's Lauren Garcia leads the individual race after a 1-under, 71.
Tomorrow's second and final round is scheduled for a 9am tee off.
