ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— In-form
Teo Casados set an improved NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying and now Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference co-leading time, one of numerous personal records that a group of Maverick sprinters set over the 200 and 400-meter distances during Friday's portion of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, which got underway here at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Casados, a sophomore from Thornton, Colorado, won two events at last week's Wes Lavong Open in Alamosa, Colorado and turned in a time of 21.59 seconds in the 200 meters on the fast banked track on Friday, moving up a spot to second place in CMU history while moving into a tie for the RMAC performance list lead with a track-size converted time of 21.66.
Dayne Ortega also set a indoor PR of 22.02 seconds to sit fourth in CMU history while
Justin Blanton moved into the No. 9 position in CMU history with a time of 22.33 seconds.
Jeremiah Reed also set a PR of 22.34 to slide into the tenth spot.
Zach Musso also set a PR time of 22.36 seconds.
In the men's 400,
Kelsey Montague ran to an indoor PR of 49.55 seconds after Ortega had broke his school-record just two weeks ago.
Julio Antondo-Avalos (50.36) and
Justin Blanton (50.41) also set new career-bests.
On the women's side,
Emma Dikken (59.15) and
Elaina Arcand (59.36) both joined the sub-minute club in the 400. They also set new PR's of 26.27 and 26.62 in the 200 finishing behind teammates
Gaby Horton (26.01),
Avry Kennison (26.16) and
Victoria Eversley (26.21). Horton and Kennison's times were also the best of their young collegiate careers.
The meet continues Saturday morning, starting at 9:30 a.m.
The Mavericks also have a larger contingent of mostly field and multi-event athletes at the Mines Winter Classic in Golden, Colorado.
