COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released their preseason women's golf poll on Wednesday (Aug. 31) morning. Colorado Mesa was picked to finish in fourth place in the conference this season.
The Mavericks received 83 points including one first-place vote in the poll that is voted on by the coaches in the conference. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams. UCCS was the top vote getter with 110 points with three first-place votes while defending champion Colorado Christian was second with 109 points and seven of the 12 first-place votes. CSU Pueblo was third and garnered the remaining first-place vote.
Colorado Mesa placed fourth at last season's RMAC Championship Tournament at Whirlwind Golf Course in Arizona with a three-round score of 925. Colorado Christian won the tournament with a three-round score of 882 followed by UCCS 890, and Regis 923.

Elly Walters and sophomore
Cassidy Phelan are the top two returners for the Mavericks. Walters finished the season with a 76.00 stroke average and bested 83.5 percent of her opponents while Phelan is the reigning RMAC Freshman of the Year after posting a 79.15 stroke average in her freshman season.
The season starts on Sunday September 11 as the team will head to Denver for the Swan Memorial at Todd Creek Golf Club.
