ALLENDALE, Mich.— Colorado Mesa University's
Sierra Arceneaux and
Mica Jenrette both earned second team all-America honors as they both finished 11
th in their respective events on Friday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which continue through Saturday here at Grand Valley State University's Track & Field Stadium.
Arceneaux turned in a time of 23.92 seconds in the 200-meter preliminaries while Jenrette surged up four places in the final event of the heptathlon to finish with 4,949 points.
Two other Mavericks also competed on Friday as
Elijah Williams placed 13
th in the men's 200-meter prelims with a time of 21.01 seconds while
Kiana Jackson placed 21
st in the triple jump with a leap of 11.69 meters (38 feet, 4 ¼ inches).
Jenrette turned in a time of 2:16.69 in the 800 meters, finishing second amongst 15 finishers in that discipline to finish just off her own school-record point total of 4,982. Her 800-meter time was an outdoor personal best and moved the indoor school-record holder (2:16.59) up to third on CMU's all-time outdoor charts.
Earlier, Jenrette had leapt 5.09 meters (16-8.5) in the long jump before throwing the javelin 31.57 meters (103-7). She had also recorded two personal bests in Thursday's portion of the event. The redshirt sophomore from Los Lunas, New Mexico has now claimed four career all-America honors, equaling Whitney Rowe for the most in CMU women's track & field history. Arceneaux, a redshirt junior from Auroras, Colorado, has now won three.
The Mavericks will have two more athletes in action on Saturday as
Spencer Purnell will compete in the men's triple jump at 12:45 p.m. EDT (10:45 a.m. Mountain) before
Josie Coffey contests the women's high jump 80 minutes later at 2:05 EDT (12:05 p.m. Mountain).
