Tucson, AZ – Day two of the West Texas A&M Desert Invite wrapped up on Tuesday (April 5), the Colorado Mesa women's golf team climbing two spots to finish the tournament eighth out of 18 teams. On the Lodge at Ventana Canyon course in Tucson the Mavericks improved on their first-round score, firing off a 316.
After sitting in the runner up spot after day one, hosts No. 11 West Texas A&M shot a 287 to finish in the top-spot. RMAC foes No. 37 Colorado Christian finished tied for fourth, with the Thunderwolves out of CSU Pueblo just ahead of the Mavs in seventh.
Elly Walters climbed up the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 8
th, shooting a 73, 7-over, in the second round. She carded three birdies, two coming in the back nine - finishing with an even-par throughout the front nine.
Following Walters was,
Cassidy Phelan who led the team in the first round completed her tournament 10-over with an 81 in the second round.
As an individual entry,
Brandy McClain tied for 47
th in the field.
Anahi Servin was the individual winner, finishing 2-under, ahead of runner up Lauren Lee out of Biola.
The Mavericks will return home and prepare for the upcoming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships later this month, teeing off at the Whirlwind Gold Club in Chandler, Arizona on April 17.
