CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf program closed out their regular season with a fourth-place finish at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday (Apr. 19) afternoon at Whirlwind Golf Club.
The Mavericks shot an 18-over, 306 in today's final round which, ironically, ranked as the fourth best team score of the day. They finished just two strokes behind third place Regis and six strokes in front of CSU Pueblo.
No. 37 Colorado Chrsitian claimed the RMAC Championship with an 18-over, 882 for the tournament and an astonishing 2-over, 290. In today's final round. They will claim the conference's automatic qualifier for the NCAA West Region Tournament.
Elly Walters and
Brittlynn O'Dell each shot a 3-over, 75 in today's final round. Walters started off with a 2-under, 34 in her front-nine before playing the back-nine to a 5-over pace while her teammate, O'Dell, played the front-nine to an even par 36, then on the back-nine fired an eagle three on the par-5, No. 15 hole and holding her score at 3-over.
Walters finished in a tie for ninth on the individual leaderboard with a 10-over, 226 while freshman
Cassidy Phelan shot a 5-over, 77 that helped her finish in a tie for 15
th place at 17-over, 233.
No. 8 ranked Faith Kilgore of Colorado Christian won the individual medalist honor after a final round 4-under, 68 and a 3-under, 213 for the tournament.
The Mavericks will await word from the NCAA whether they have qualified for the NCAA West Region Tournament. Selections are scheduled to be released on Monday April 25 with the tournament scheduled to run from May 2-4 at Brookside Golf & Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
