CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team opened the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament on Easter Sunday (Apr. 17) at Whirlwind Golf Club. The course layout for the championship is a par-72, 6,015-yard course for the three rounds.
The Mavericks sit in sixth place after the first round finished out with a 30-over, 318. They lie two strokes ahead of Chadron State and are well within reach of a top-5 finish just four strokes behind fifth-place CSU Pueblo.
No. 37 Colorado Christian is leading the tournament at 11-over, 299, one stroke ahead of UCCS who is in second.
Elly Walters is leading the Mavericks and in contention for a spot atop the individual leaderboard. Walters shot a 3-over, 75 in her first round and sits in a tie for seventh place. She had 15 pars, leading the tournament, and three bogeys. The Rifle native is five strokes off the lead and just a stroke out of the top five.

Crystle Querol and
Myranda Kotlowski all shot 9-over, 81s in their first round and are in a tie for 27
th place.
Brittlynn O'Dell was at 11-over, 83 in her first round but she was the lone Maverick to card a birdie on the round.
MSU Denver's Isabel Botero leads the individual leaderboard with a 2-under, 70 in the first round.
The team will open their second round tomorrow morning.
