DeGeorge Announces the Addition of a Prep Big Man

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa head men's basketball coach Mike DeGeorge has announced the signing of James 'JP' Shiers, an incoming freshman from Mead High School in Colorado. Shiers will be a part of the 2022-23 Colorado Mesa team that is coming off three straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

"We are excited to have JP join the program. His height, length, and shot blocking instincts combined with his skill set are very unique for our level," coach DeGeorge said. "In addition, we have been very impressed with his continued development in his approach to the game.  We think he will be a great addition to our culture and we look forward to seeing his continued growth."

Shiers, a 7-1, 220-pound center, helped lead the Mavericks of Mead High School to the State Championship as a junior and finished his career as a two-time All-State, All-Region and All-Conference selection. During his senior season, he averaged 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game and scored a season-high 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in his final prep game.

Mead High School was 61-9 during Shiers' tenure.

He is the son of Sean and Karey Shiers and has one sibling, Emma. He plans to pursue a degree in business.
