PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team competed in the weather shortened Pack Classic on Sunday (Mar. 20) at Walking Stick Golf Course. The tournament was scheduled to run on Sunday and Monday but was moved to play two rounds on today to finish ahead of the impending storm scheduled to hit Colorado on Sunday evening.
Reigning RMAC Golfer of the Week
Elly Walters led the Mavericks with a tie for fifth place on the overall individual leaderboard with a 7-over, 151 (76-75). She hovered around the top of the leaderboard throughout the day as she finished her two rounds with seven birdies. She was just a shot back of fourth place and three shots back of third.
Freshman
Cassidy Phelan finished in a tie for 16
th place on the leaderboard with an 11-over, 155. She ended the two rounds with just three birdies but limited the bogeys she had in the two rounds. She fired a 79 in her opening round and responded with a 76 in her final round.
Colorado Christian's Faith Kilgore, ranked No. 7 in the country by GolfStat, won the individual medalist honor with a 2-under, 142 in the tournament.
Colorado Mesa finished tied for fourth in the team standings with a 47-over, 623. They finished just two strokes behind host CSU Pueblo and tied with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Simon Fraser.
No. 35 ranked Nebraska Kearney won the team title with a 31-over, 607.
The Mavericks will be back in action on April 1 as they compete in the RJGA Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Ariz.
