SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team completed their first tournament of the spring on Friday (Mar. 11) afternoon at the Biola Eagle Invitational at The Grand Golf Club.
The Mavericks finished the tournament where they began on day two, in fourth place. They shot a 319 in their final round to finish with a two-day total of 635 and 11 shots behind host Biola for third place.
Cal State San Marcos won the team title with a two-round total of 601 and nine strokes better than second place Point Loma.
Rifle, Colo. product
Elly Walters shot 1-ovver, 73 in her second round after posting three birdies and four bogeys in her round. She played the front nine to a 1-over followed by and even-par back-nine. She closed her round with four pars and a birdie in her final five holes.
Her two-round score of 147 was good enough for a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard. The 73 tied for the low round of the day.
Freshman
Cassidy Phelan finished in 12
th place on the leaderboard after carding a 9-over, 81 in her final round. Phelan had two birdies in the round with both coming on the back nine.
Point Loma's Raquel Prado earned the individual medalist honor with a two-round score of 143.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action on March 21 as the head to the El Cheapo Classic in Pueblo, Colo. at Walking Stick Golf Course.
