Maverick Matinee on Saturday with Hardrockers

The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team will have just one game this weekend in Brownson Arena. The Mavericks (15-4, 10-4 RMAC) will take on the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers (3-18, 3-12 RMAC) on Saturday in a matinee affair at 4pm.

DOUBLE DIP
Colorado Mesa swept the weekly awards again this week earning both offensive and defensive player of the week honors from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Mariah Martin earned her third offensive player of the week honor after scoring 74 points (24.7 average) during the week. She added seven assists and drilled a season-high five three-pointers in the win over Fort Lewis.

Kelsey Siemons was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after averaging over 12 rebounds per game last week against Black Hills, Fort Lewis and Western Colorado. She had a 17 point and 11 rebound double double against Fort Lewis. She currently leads the RMAC in blocked shots and total rebounds this season.

THE GLOVE
Senior guard Sophie Anderson typically draws the opposing team's top scorer when the Mavericks take the floor defensively. This past Tuesday, Anderson was given the duty to guard Westminster's top scorer in Ashley Greenwood who averages over 18 points per game. Anderson limited Greenwood to her season-low points of nine.

Last week, the Paonia, Colo. native drew Western Colorado's Emery Wagstaff. Anderson limited her to just two points then Wagstaff scored 18 just this past Tuesday night against Colorado Christian.

SCOUTING THE HARDROCKERS
South Dakota Mines hasn't had the year they were expecting. Despite the losing record, the Hardrockers have lost four games by one possession that includes an overtime loss to Wayne State, a three-point loss to CSU Pueblo and a two-point loss to Western Colorado.

All three of their wins have come at home in the King Center.

With all that being said, South Dakota Mines possesses one of the most dynamic players in the conference in Ames, Iowa native Ryan Weiss. The two-time All-RMAC First Team selection is averaging 13.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season while shooting over 40 percent from the floor and over 35 percent from three. She is on a streak of eight straight games in double figures with a season-high 26 points on Thursday night against Westminster.

THE COACH
Head coach Taylor Wagner enters his tenth season as the man in charge of the Mavericks. He has amassed a 223-58 overall record (20+ wins per season average) and an astonishing 167-43 (15+ wins per season average) mark inside the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference during his tenure.

He has guided the Mavericks to five NCAA Tournament and made a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight during his first season with the program. He has been named the RMAC Coach of the Year five times in that span.
