GUNNISON, Colo.— Josie Coffey and
Chian DeLoach swept the Saturday jumping events as they lead the Colorado Mesa University Maverick women's indoor track & field team to a second place finish at the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships held here in Western Colorado University's Mountaineer Field House.
The Mavs finished with 91 team points while matching last year's team for the highest RMAC Championship finish in program history. They won three gold medals throughout the meet.
Coffey, who came into the meet ranked ninth in the RMAC, defended her 2021 high jump title as she cleared 1.70 meters (5-7) to win the title on the second tie-breaker, total misses (6), one fewer than Lexye Wood (7), who also cleared the NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying bar.
Meanwhile, DeLoach won her first career conference crown, taking the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.89 meters (39-0.25). She was seeded sixth coming into the weekend meet.
The Mavericks also claimed a silver medal in the 4x400-meter relay and a bronze in the 200 meters on Saturday. In the relay,
Serenity Burnett-Perry,
Sophie Lindauer,
Mica Jenrette and
Sierra Arceneaux, posted a time of 3:55.47, fifth best in school-history.
Lindauer also took eighth in both the 400 meters (1:00.35) and the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5-3.25), while Arceneaux finished third in the 200 with a time of 24.89 seconds after finishing fifth in the 60 meters.
Jenrette had won the heptathlon on Friday.
In the 60-meter dash,
Rachel Crutcher finished fourth in a season-best 7.61 seconds while Arceneaux was clocked in 7.63 seconds. Both were NCAA provisional qualifying times. Crutcher also finished fifth in the 200 with a season-best time of 25.06, joining Arceneaux as a national provisional qualifier.
Elsewhere,
Kira MacGill set a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 5:14.33 (4:57.63-converted) to take 11
th in a very fast mile before setting another NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:34.87 (9:58.01-converted) to finish ninth in the 3,000 meters.
Lindsay Parsons (10:58.13) and
Kendall White (11:19.06) also contested the latter, finishing 12
th and 14
th, respectively.
Amber Valdez finished 18th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.89 while
Kailey Paterson was disqualified in the 60-meter hurdle final.
In the field,
Kiana Jackson turned in a fourth-place mark of 11.60 meters (38-0.75) in the triple jump while
Heather Yackey took 17
th in the shot put with a heave of 11.08 meters (36-4.25).
The Maverick men also won four events on Saturday and finished a program-best second as well.
