Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team was playing their sixth game in 11 days on Tuesday (Feb. 1) evening except this time they were taking on their travel partner and rival Westminster on the road. Using just six players, the Mavericks came away with an 83-73 road win in Behnken Field House.
All five starters finished in double figures for the Mavericks as they each tallied 40 minutes of action.
Mariah Martin, a graduate transfer from Westminster, finished with a game-high 24 points on 8-for-22 shooting. Martin handed out seven assists against her former teammates.
Martin's running mate,
Daniella Turner, was on triple-double watch towards the end of the game as she finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Monica Brooks finished with a career-high 14 points and added four rebounds. Brooks buried a pair of key three-pointers to push the Maverick lead with one coming in the first half and the other in the second half.
Kelsey Siemons had 15 points as all her points came from makes from beyond the arc.
Senior
Sophie Anderson finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. The unsung hero of the team, Anderson drew the guard of the Griffins top scorer in Ashley Greenwood. Anderson held Greenwood to her lowest point output of the season at nine points as she was 4-for-11 from the field.
As a team, the Mavericks biggest advantage came on the glass as they held the rebounding advantage at 38-26 which led to a 24-11 advantage in second chance points.
With the win, the Mavericks are now 15-4 on the year and 10-4 in the conference while Westminster drops to 11-6, 10-3 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks will be back at home this weekend when they take on South Dakota Mines on Saturday at 4pm in Brownson Arena.
