Mavericks Drop a Pair of Matchups at home to Lobos

Mavericks Hockey dropped two games this weekend to the University of New Mexico at home in front of large, boisterous crowds.

On Friday the Mavs opened the game with a solid 1st Period with a score of 1-1.  After some interesting penalties, the Mavs found themselves down 6-2 after the 2nd period. The game finished 7-2 in favour of New Mexico.  Freshman defenseman Seth Kern, a stalwart for the Mavs on the blueline, scored his first collegiate goal. Collin Fitzgerald notched the other tally.

The second game on Saturday started much like the first with the Mavs playing a strong game down 3-2 after 2 periods. In the 3rd period the Mavericks put on a penalty killing clinic killing off 9-straight minutes of New Mexico powerplays.  With little time left to even the score, the Mavs lost 4-2. Goalie Jacob Babin was outstanding in net for the Mavericks turning aside 44 shots. The Mavs two  goals were scored by Fitzgerald and Colton Wurzer-Seepers.

The Mavs are back home next weekend against Northern Arizona. Saturday's game is the 6th Annual Pink the Rink Cancer Charity Game. Puck drop is 7pm on Friday and 4:45pm on Saturday for the big charity game!
