MacGill matches history as CMU women record best finish in six years

CMU women take eighth at RMAC Championships

DURANGO, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University redshirt sophomore Kira MacGill matched a school-record by becoming just the second Maverick woman to ever earn three consecutive all-conference honors as she led the Maverick women's cross country team to their best team Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship finish in six years on Saturday here at Hill Crest Golf Course.

The Mavericks placed eighth as a team out of the 15 squads, the same place they last had in 2016.  CMU had a team score of 234 points and was just 13 points shy of sixth place Westminster.

Individually, MacGill took 22nd in the field of 116 finishers, completing the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 39.5 seconds and earned Second Team All-RMAC plaudits, which go to the 15th-28th place individual finishers.  First team honors go to the top 14 finishers.  MacGill, a redshirt sophomore from Littleton, Colorado, joins CMU Hall of Honor inductee Alexis Skarda (2008-10) as the only 3-time all-conference performer.  MacGill had finished 16th in 2020 and 18th a year ago.

Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Kendall White also had a strong day, finishing 41st overall and 39th amongst team scorers with a time of 23:46.4.

Sophomores Ricky Maestas (24:17.6) and Alyssa Britton (24:20.0) were just outside the top 50, taking 52nd and 53rd.  They scored 49 and 50 team points, respectively.

CMU's fifth finisher was Jessie Beck, who placed 84th overall and 74th amongst team scorers in 26:02.2.

Megan Hodges also finished for the Mavs, placing 87th in 26:08.3.

National No. 1 poll Adams State won the team title with an impressive score of just 17 points.  They had the top four and seventh place finishers.  Stephanie Cotter won the individual title in 20:45.8, defeating teammate and defending RMAC Champion Brianna Robles by five seconds.

No. 3 Colorado School of Mines finished second with 76 points while No.4X UCCS was third with 88.  No. 9 Western Colorado was fourth with 109 while CSU Pueblo, ranked 22 nationally, finished fifth with 113.  No. 12 Colorado Christian placed 11th with 289.

Ally Herring led a group of three Maverick women who competed unattached in the Durango Open, ran on the same course.  She finished in 25:53.6.

The Maverick men had two All-RMAC finishers in Tony Torres and Ethan Abbs and took fifth for the third successive year.
