Box Score Golden, CO –The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team had trouble getting baskets to fall Friday night in Lockridge Arena, shooting a quiet 37.3 on the night, falling 68-58 to Colorado School of Mines.
Mines used a 36-24 edge in the second half, hitting 50 percent of their shots on the night, while the Mavericks struggled to convert in the second on 29.1 percent, 1-for-8 from long range. Rebounds also played a factor as the Orediggers won the glass game 37-28, converting 11 second chance points.
Georgie Dancer matched the game-high scoring with 16 points, snagging five rebounds in the process. Fellow senior,
Jared Small chipped in 14,
Blaise Threatt with 10.
Mac Riniker added tallies across the defense with 7 rebounds, a block and a steal, putting in 9 points for the offense.
Colorado Mesa got down by 10 halfway through the first half, but used an 16-4 advantage to close out the second half.
Isaac Jessup sinking a three-pointer in the Mavs final possession of the half, giving way to a 34-32 lead.
The Orediggers came out and sparked a run of their own in the second half, with CMU missing a few layup attempts early on. Mines led for most of the half, Threatt snagging the steal and the layup to close in on a 6-point deficit.
However, it wouldn't be enough as free throws put the home team back up to 10 for the final score.
In his return, Kai Barr led the team with 16-points, adding 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals on the night. Ben Boone and
Brendan Sullivan chipped in 15 apiece.
The Maverick men will turn their attention and look to upset the undefeated Regis Rangers tomorrow. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Regis Fieldhouse.
