GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team closed out their second tournament of the fall on Tuesday (Sept. 28) afternoon at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella that took place at The Golf Club at Estrella.
The Mavericks moved up from their round one finish to place 13
th in the team standings with a two-round total of 638. They were the second highest finishing school in the RMAC ahead of MSU Denver, CSU Pueblo and Fort Lewis.
Cal State San Marcos won the team title with a 22-over, 698 for the two rounds, six strokes ahead of Embry Riddle (AZ) and eight strokes better than Colorado Christian.
Brandy McClain had her second straight solid round and finished in a tie for 20
th place with a 7-over, 79 in her second round. She had just one birdie in her final round but had 10 pars to balance out her scorecard. She finished the tournament with an 8-over, 152.
Elly Walters finished with the low round of the day for Colorado Mesa. Walters carded a 3-over, 75 in her final round and finished in a tie for 32
nd place. She started off her round with two birdies and two bogeys in her first six holes before finishing with seven pars, four bogeys and a birdie. She improved six strokes from round one and moved up 29 spots on the leaderboard to finish with a 156 in the two rounds.
There was a three-way tie for individual medalist honors with Raquel Prado of Point Loma, Breann Horn of Cal State San Marcos and Drishti Karumbaya of Cal State East Bay who all finished the tournament at 1-under.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action on October 8 at the Wasatch Invitational hosted by Westminster.
