GREENSBORO, N.C. – The American Baseball Coaches Association released their all-Region teams on Wednesday (Jun. 2) morning. Two teams were selected coaches in each of the nation's eight geographic regions that all Division II schools reside.
Colorado Mesa landed seven on the all-South Central Region team including four first teamers and a sweep of the highest honors in the region.
Designated hitter
Haydn McGeary was named the ABCA South Central Region Player of the Year and is now the consensus Region Player of the Year landing the title in all three publications. The Peoria, Ariz. native finished the season with a .481 batting average and led the nation in hits, doubles, RBIs and slugging percentage. He had a 9-RBI game at Adams State on March 7 and finished the season on a 15-game hitting streak, registering a hit in every game at the NCAA South Central Region tournament.
Staff ace
Andrew Morris was named the ABCA South Central Region Pitcher of the Year after earning the RMAC Pitcher of the Year honor earlier in May. Morris finished his season at 9-0 with a 2.19 ERA and earned the NCBWA Region Pitcher of the Week award three times and the National Award once. He had 115 strikeouts on the season which was good enough for fourth nationally and registered double-digit strikeouts in seven of his 12 outings in his sophomore season.
Matthew Turner earned ABCA all-Region First Team accolades after leading the nation in home runs with 23 this season. It was the first time since 1997 that a Maverick hit more than 20 home runs in a season and Turner missed a portion of the season with an injury. The Broomfield, Colo. native finished the season batting .390 and a 1.403 OPS in 42 games played.
Senior
Tyler Parker was named to the ABCA all-Region First Team after a stellar run late in the season. Parker finished the season with a .414 batting average with 11 doubles and eight home runs. He finished the season on a 15-game hitting streak that included nine hits in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.
Spencer Bramwell,
Jordan Stubbings, and
Ryan Day all landed on the ABCA all-Region Second Team. Bramwell finished the season with a .357 average with 12 doubles and 10 home runs while Stubbings batted .363 with 12 doubles and 13 home runs both in their junior seasons. Day was the Mavericks No. 2 pitcher throughout the season and finished 8-1 with 83 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.
