Cartwright, Schoenfeld lead Mavericks All-Region and All-American honors

WINGATE, N.C – The National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) released their All-American teams on Wednesday (May 21) afternoon. Colorado Mesa had two student-athletes represented on the team with one on the first team and the other on the second team.

Junior outfielder Cameron Cartwright was named to the first team after an unbelievable season in left field for the Mavericks. The Parker, Colo. native earned both D2CCA and NCBWA All-Region First Team honors after claiming All-RMAC First Team and RMAC Tournament MVP accolades just two weeks ago.

Cartwright earned NCBWA National Player of the Week following the RMAC Tournament and will likely finish the season as the national leader in batting average at .468. He is currently ranked in the top-10 in on-base percentage at .557 (No.6), slugging percentage at .980 (No.2) and RBIs with 81 (No.8).

Senior center fielder Paul Schoenfeld was named to the second team after going on a tear this season. The Wichita, Kan. native finished the season with a .425 batting average and had a 28-game hitting streak and a 35-game reached base streak during the season.

Schoenfeld earned D2CCA and NCBWA All-Region First Team honors along with All-RMAC First Team and RMAC All-Tournament Team accolades in the last two weeks. He ranks second in NCAA Division II with 89 and runs per game at 1.59. Schoenfeld also ranks No. 5 in hits with 94.

Several others picked up All-Region honors in the last few days. Kolby Felix was named Second Team All-Region by the NCBWA for having a solid season in the outfield for the Mavericks. Felix finished the season with a .356 batting average with 21 doubles, a triple and 13 home runs. Felix's honor makes it an All-Region sweep for the Maverick starting outfield.

Junior righthander Gauge Lockhart earned Second Team All-Region honors by both the NCBWA and D2CCA for his season on the mound. Lockhart went 8-1 with a 5.77 ERA in 53 innings with 47 strikeouts during the season. The Delta, Colo. native had a streak of seven straight outings that resulted in a win that began on February 27 and ran up to his April 11 start.

Fellow junior starting pitcher Liam Hohenstein picked up Second Team All-Region honors by the NCBWA. The Castle Rock, Colo. product finished the season with a 4-4 mark with 41 and a third innings pitched and 51 strikeouts. Hohenstein had two outings where he struck out a season-high seven batters during the season.

Senior closer JJ Almeda earned NCBWA All-Region Second Team honors after leading the Mavericks with five saves. The Lynwood, Calif. native finished his senior season with a 4.03 ERA in 29 innings pitched and 35 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .250 off of him and earned RMAC All-Tournament team honors after making three appearances in the conference tournament.
