GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa right-handed pitcher
Andrew Pogue has signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Detroit Tigers last night (July 14). Pogue now joins six other former Mavericks in Minor League (MiLB) or Major League Baseball (MLB).
Pogue finished his lone season with the Mavericks with a 3-1 record with one save. The Peoria, Ill. native pitched 34 innings and allowed 28 hits, 18 walks and had 35 strikeouts. He routinely flashed an upper-90s fastball along with a low-90s slider while developing a curve ball and change-up during his time in the Grand Valley.
The graduate student had private workouts for a total of five organizations, that included the Tigers, with all of them being intrigued with Pogue's intangibles including vertical jump, broad jump, and reach.
Pogue will join up with former Maverick Bligh Madris in the Tiger organization.
NOTE: Colorado Mesa also had one of their incoming recruits be drafted and sign with an MLB franchise. Outfielder Jack Barker from College of Southern Idaho was selected in the 13
th Round by the Philadelphia Phillies. He did sign and will report to the Phillies Complex later this week.
