COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Due to poor weather forecasts, the Colorado Mesa University men's lacrosse team has made a schedule change moving up their non-conference game to be played here against Colorado College up a day to Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Washburn Field.
The 2-1 Mavericks, currently ranked 17
th in the USILA Division II Coaches' Poll, have been off since Mar. 13 when they completed a 3-game trip through the Southeastern United States with a 9-8 win over Alabama-Huntsville.
Jed Brummett led the Mavericks with seven goals throughout the swing while
Carson Schwark also tallied seven points with five goals and two assists.
Cole Emmanuel won 33 of 49 faceoffs (.673) and scooped up 18 ground balls during the trip.
CC will enter Monday's game with an 8-1 record. The Tigers have won their last three contests outscoring their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents by a combined 70-12 margin in those games after suffering their only loss of the year to fourth-ranked NCAA Division III Salisbury (Md.) on Mar. 21. The Tigers are receiving votes in last week's USILA Division III poll.
They have also won three games against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents defeating CSU Pueblo twice and Adams State once.
The Mavericks and Tigers last played in 2015 and have split the all-time series with each team winning twice, including once on each other's home turf. Monday's contest will be the first leg of a 2021 home-and-home series with the Tigers due to pay a return visit to Grand Junction and Maverick Field on Friday, Mar. 16 at 7 p.m.
