BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Colorado Mesa University junior
Lily Borgenheimer led five point-scoring efforts with a fifth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke as the Maverick women's swimming and diving team finished a program record-setting 12
th in the final team standings at the NCAA Division II Championships, which wrapped up Saturday evening after four jam-packed days of competition here at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Mavericks also received 11
th and 16
th place finishes from freshmen
Katerina Matoskova and
Elsa Huebsch in the 200-yard backstroke, a 15
th place tally from
Robyn Naze in the 1,650 free and a 13
th place finish in the meet-capping 400 free relay as they finished with a school-record 159 team points, more than doubling their former record of 71, set in 2018 and matched a year later.
Naze, the Maverick record holder (17:09.99-altitude adjusted) in collegiate swimming's longest event as of last month's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, started the day posting a time of 17 minutes, 12.19 seconds, by far the fastest all-conditions time in Maverick history.
The Mavericks then fielded a contingent of three in the 200 back prelims as Matoskova qualified ninth while Huebsch squeaked into the evening finals session 16
th.
Lauren White finished 19
th in 2:02.40.
Borgenheimer was also the top qualifier in the 200 breast prelims at 2:12.99.
In the evening session, Matoskova matched her personal-best with a time of 1:59.85 to finish third in the consolation final of the 200 back. Huebsch touched in 2:03.27 after posting a time of 2:01.56 in the morning.
Meanwhile, Borgenheimer faded in the final lap of the 200 breast final, finishing in 2:15.84 to take fifth place in a breaststroke event for the second straight night. She had also placed fifth in the 100-yard distance on Friday, finishing just 0.01 seconds behind a tie for third.
In the final event of the women's meet, White,
Kelsea Wright, Matoskova and Huebsch combined for a time of 3:28.62 in the relay.
