AUSTIN, Texas – The Colorado Mesa football team had two student-athletes selected to the Academic All-America® Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Torren Calhoun and
Dagan Rienks each earned the honor for their work on the field and in the classroom.
Calhoun, a defensive end from Fort Worth, Texas, was named to the first team with a 4.0 GPA while earning his degree in business entrepreneurship. He finished the season with 17 tackles and four and a half sacks in his first season of competition with Colorado Mesa.
Tight end
Dagan Rienks was named to the second team after finishing the season with 20 catches for 285 yards and five touchdowns during his junior season. The Paonia, Colo. native has a 3.82 GPA and is earning his degree in exercise science.
Calhoun and Rienks are the eighth and ninth recipients of the Academic All-America honors for football and the first duo of football student-athletes to receive the accolades since 2012 when Trent deBraga and Matt Mankoff were awarded.
Six football student-athletes from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference were awarded with Academic All-America accolades.
