Mavericks Look to stay perfect at Al Kaly Shrine Classic

The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team will be back out on the road this weekend as they travel to Pueblo, Colo. for one game at the Al Kaly Shrine Classic at Massari Arena. The Mavericks will take on Park University (AZ) at 1pm on Friday in their lone weekend matchup.

DEFENSE WINS GAME
Through just two games, the Mavericks are one of the top defensive teams in the country. They have limited their opponents to just 34 percent shooting from the field and 13 percent from beyond the arc.

They have forced their opponents to turn the ball over 16.5 times per game and have been able to score an average of 16 points off those turnovers.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE
Daniella Turner did something in game two of the season that she hadn't done in her career as a Maverick. The Boca Raton, Fla. native recorded a double-double in the Mavericks win over West Texas A&M as she finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds in their first-ever win over the Buffs.

BLOCK PARTY
Kelsey Siemons has already established herself as one of the top shot blockers not only in Colorado Mesa program history but in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference history. The Tucson native added two more blocks during the opening weekend to give herself 150 blocked shots in her career. She remains second on the all-time list 122 blocks behind all-time leader Susan Luecke.

SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS
Park University is off to a 1-3 start to the season, but that record may be a little misleading as two of their four games have against Division I competition. They fell to Utah Valley 90-47 and to Idaho State 109-56 last week.

Elise Young leads Park with 13.8 points per game and is shooting 50 percent from the field. She had a season-high 23 points in the Bucs win over Ottawa (AZ) in the season opener back on October 30.

THE COACH
Head coach Taylor Wagner enters his tenth season as the man in charge of the Mavericks. He has amassed a 208-54 overall record (20+ wins per season average) and an astonishing 157-39 (15+ wins per season average) mark inside the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference during his tenure.

He has guided the Mavericks to five NCAA Tournament and made a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight during his first season with the program. He has been named the RMAC Coach of the Year five times in that span.

ON THE HORIZON
Colorado Mesa will be back on the road one final time before their home opener on November 27. The Mavericks will take on Division I Utah Valley on Tuesday in Orem in an exhibition.
