MacGill earns second All-RMAC honor for CMU women

Parsons turns in best career conference finish to help CMU to tenth place

GOLDEN, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University redshirt freshman Kira MacGill earned her second consecutive Second Team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honor as she finished 18th to lead the Maverick women's cross country team to a tenth place team finish at the RMAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday here at Applewood Golf Course.

MacGill, who made Maverick history as the only CMU cross country runner to earn RMAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2020 with a 16th place finish at last year's championships,  finished Saturday's 6-kilometer race in 22 minutes, 48.2 seconds and earned all-conference accolades, which go to the top 28 individual finishers.  The top 14 earn first team honors while the 15th-28th place finishers earn second team accolades.

MacGill is now just the third Maverick women to ever earn multiple All-RMAC honors joining 3-time first team selection Alexis Skarda (2008-10), Esmeralda Martinez-Ramos (2008-09) and Christie Darvis (1991-92).

Meanwhile, Maverick redshirt senior Lindsay Parsons turned in the best of her five career RMAC Championships finishes, placing 39th in 23:50.9.

CMU true freshman Alyssa Britton (24:31.6) and Elaina Arcand (24:45.7) then finished 54th and 60th, respectively.  They scored 52 and 57 team points.  Redshirt freshman Ella Rosenkranz then capped CMU's team score of 235 points with a 73rd place overall finish in 25:19.1.  She was 69th amongst team-scoring runners.

Freshman Ricky Maestas finished 88th in 26:19.2 while Arianna Kincaid was 98th in 26:54.2.

Top-ranked Adams State placed three runners in the top nine and five in the top 13 to take the team with a score of 41 points.  National No. 4 and host Colorado School of Mines was second with 71.

Adams State's Brianna Robles won the individual title by 18 seconds with a final time of 21:18.4.  UCCS junior Layla Almasri was second in 21:36.4 as she led the Mountain Lions, ranked sixth nationally, to a third place finish with 90 points.

No. 7 CSU Pueblo finished fourth with 142 while No. 10 Western Colorado took fifth with 153.

All five of the top five teams had a top-5 individual finisher.  Those nationally-ranked squads also had each of the top 11 runners.

The Maverick men had two Second Team All-RMAC efforts and finished fifth as a team
.

CMU will continue the season in two weeks at the Nov. 6 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships in Lubbock, Texas.
