ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 25 Colorado Mesa men's wrestling team pulled off the upset on Thursday evening, upending No. 13 (tied) Adams State, 27-17 in Plachy Hall in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual.
The Mavericks (9-4, 5-1 RMAC) won six of the ten bouts that included a forfeit win at 197 pounds en route to the win.
After surrendering major decision losses at 125 and 133 pounds,
Daniel Van Hoose scored the upset of the night at 141 pounds. The sophomore defeated fourth-ranked Noah Hermosillo 6-5 to break the run of wins for the Grizzlies. Van Hoose scored two takedowns after escaping to fuel a five point third round.
Adams State (5-4, 3-3 RMAC) picked up a pin at 149 pounds followed by a decision victory at 157 pounds before Colorado Mesa won the next five straight bouts to close out the win.

A select group of Mavericks will compete at the Rocky Mountain Open at Colorado School of Mines on Sunday with the final dual coming on Wednesday February 19 against rival Western Colorado.
